Policies:
Our desire and goal is to offer the very best instruction of all performance arts, while instilling the appreciation, discipline, and knowledge required to excel in the chosen field. We aim to provide performing opportunities throughout the year. Participants can learn to dance, learn to sing and learn to act all under one roof.
Our staff is carefully selected for their professionalism, preparation, skill, compassion, positive attitudes, attention to detail, and ability to translate their knowledge and passion to their students.
It is also our goal for every student to gain the confidence, technical ability, and performance opportunities necessary to achieve the next level. We also strive to provide our performers who desire a professional career with the technical foundation and inspiration to pursue their dream.
We take pride in offering the absolute best resources available in the Northwest. Professional training, atmosphere, attitudes, careers, and results! Welcome to Spotlight Performing Arts where every child has a chance to shine.
At Spotlight Performing Arts, we believe in personal attention. We also believe in the care and safety of our students. Because we wish to thoroughly review our polices with you in person, we conduct all student registrations on site. However, we encourage you to review the following release and emergency treatment sections outlined below to give you a foundation for your registration session.
EMERGENCY TREATMENT
I consent to my or my child's/children's participation in activities/programs registered for, and authorize S.P.A. and it's agents to provide or secure emergency medical treatment for me or my child/children on my behalf. To the best of my knowledge, neither I nor my child/children has a physical or other condition, which would interfere with participation in S.P.A’s program.
ATTENDANCE
Spotlight provides many performing groups, troupes and teams. Because many of our classes depend on the interaction between other dancers, actors, and vocalist, it is imperative that participants attend a minimum of 90 % of scheduled classes. Unless the participant is ill or has a family emergency, we expect our participants to attend all scheduled classes. Regular absences and tardiness may result in less performance opportunities.
ATTITUDE & DRESS CODE
A proper attitude and proper dance training go hand in hand. We expect that Spotlight Performing Art’s attitude of excellence to be mirrored by our students' behavior. Hard work, willingness to try, and earnest response to correction and instruction are the hallmarks of a proper attitude. Students are required to adhere to the dress code as outlined. Students who are not dressed appropriately will not be admitted to class.
BALLET
All classes must have pink tights and pink ballet shoes. Preschool and beginning classes shall wear pink leotards while the intermediate and advanced classes will wear a black leotard. Students may wear pink leg warmers and pink or black skirts or ballet sweaters. No jewelry or other apparel is allowed. Hair must be worn off the neck for class and away from the eyes. Students without the appropriate attire or without their hair pulled back may not be admitted to class.
JAZZ / MUSICAL THEATER / MODERN / LYRICAL
Any color leotard and tights is acceptable. Jazz shoes or light dance sneakers are required for Jazz and Musical Theater while “dance paws” are acceptable for modern and lyrical.
SPOTLIGHT PERFORMING AND COMPETITIVE TEAMS
Black jazz pants or shorts and a black; form-fitting tank, leotard, or t-shirt is required. The goal of team dance is to dance as one cohesive unit. If team members wear different colors and styles of dancewear, it draws the coaches’ eyes to individuals rather than the team as a whole.
TUMBLING / TURNS AND TRICKS / STUNTS
Any color leotard and tights or shorts and t-shirt combination is acceptable. Jazz shoes or light dance sneakers are required for turning technique. “Dance paws” are acceptable for tumbling. Athletic sneakers may be required for some stunts and tumbling passes.
All dance apparel must be clearly labeled with the student's name. Valuables should not be brought to the studio. A lost and found is located in the office but the studio cannot be responsible for the lost articles.
PLACEMENT & PROMOTION
Placement of students in the appropriate level of instruction occurs at the discretion of the director. Unlike progress in a public school setting, advancement in dance is determined by the student's physical readiness and the ability to master the technical requirements at a given level. Students do not necessarily advance at the same rate according to age. It is not unusual to find a wide range of ages in any given class. All class promotions are on a probationary basis. An evaluation will be conducted during the first month of class and a determination made as the student's final placement. Parents may only observe class through the large windows in the lobby looking into the studio. Occasionally parents are allowed in the studio but only after permission from the instructor have been granted. Spotlight Co. is a competitive team that auditions for team placement in the spring. A panel of 3-5 judges determines each candidate potential for team placement.
PAYMENTS
All classes require a registration fee of $40. All performing and competitive programs will have a larger registration fee due to competition and performance fees. See schedule for details. Most S.P.A costumes are designed specifically for the particular class theme. Costume fees differ from class to class. Half of the costume fee is due upon registration. Failure to pay for costumes in a timely manner will result in not being able to order the costume. Failure to have a costume results in non-performance. All monthly tuition payments are due on the first class of the month. Payment should be in cash or checks. All checks are made payable to: Spotlight. A $25 late fee is assessed to payments that are 30 + days late. Failure to pay after 45 days of notice will result in non-admittance to class and possible non-performance in competitions, showcases, and other performing opportunities.
I waive all rights and release all claims that might be had against Spotlight Performing Arts, henceforth referred to as S.P.A and its hired or contracted instructors, and their employees and agents, for any and all injuries or losses which may be suffered because of my participation or in any or all enrolled activities with the school, in consideration of permission of the school to participate on the activities. I also realize that dance requires hands on instruction for proper body placement and development of the muscles. I agree to adhere to all the above rules, regulations and guidelines.
